Installation Notes

Documentation:

The user manual for Easy Email Encryption ("the Software") is available online at hermetic.ch/eee/eee.htm.

Trial Version:

In the trial version only one key can be used for encryption, namely, 'the trial version key' (checksum = 1581), and the maximum size of a message to be encrypted (including any attached files) is 10 KB.  After twenty program starts or thirty days (whichever comes first) the trial version becomes a demo version which can no longer be used for encryption (although it can still be used to decrypt any message which was encrypted, regardless of size and the key used).

Windows 2000 and Windows XP Systems:

If you always use an admin account (the XP default) then you need not concern yourself with the rest of this paragraph, otherwise: This installation program must be run from an admin account.  After installation the program can be run in trial or demo mode from either an admin account or a user account.  To activate the software (see below) the program must be run from an admin account.  After activation it can be run either from an admin account or from a user account. For more information see hermetic.ch/guide.htm.

Windows Vista Systems:

The same is true as for Windows 2000 and Windows XP Systems (see above) except that: During installation there is a message stating that a certain typelib file cannot be registered; this can be ignored.  If you are running the software from a user account and you have a problem with keyboard input then there is a fix for this (contact support@hermetic.ch).

Activation of the Software:

To activate the Software (to make it permanently fully-functional) you need to obtain an activation key. This is supplied only after a user license has been purchased.  The activation key is specific to the machine on which the Software is installed.

When you first run the Software an 'Activate this software' window will open.  At the top are three buttons:
(1) Clicking on the first button normally opens in your browser a web page with options for purchasing a user license (you may have to switch to your browser manually if it does not appear).  Some of the purchase options result in an activation key being sent to you as soon as you have completed your purchase (at this time these are the PayPal and Share-it purchase options).
(2) If you have already purchased a user license but have not yet received an activation key (or if you need to obtain a new activation key after a hardware upgrade), clicking on the second button normally takes you to a web page for that purpose.  (A key can be obtained in this way only after your purchase has been registered in our online database.)  
(3) If you have received a message containing an activation key, and you have copied the key to the clipboard, clicking on the third button causes the software to look for the key on the clipboard, and if a correct activation key is found there then the software will be activated.

On some systems the purchase web page and the request-a-key web page, mentioned in (1) and (2), do not appear after clicking on the buttons (though the web browser may come up).  In this case please enter the URL which is displayed by the software in order to go the the required page.

To activate the Software on a machine which is not connected to the net, or to activate multiple installations of the Software under the terms of a site license, contact Hermetic Systems at support@hermetic.ch for advice.

Reinstallation of the Software:

If you have previously installed this version of the Software successfully and for some reason wish to reinstall it then you can simply rerun the installation program.

If you have previously installed an earlier version then installing this version will not overwrite the earlier version.  The earlier version can be uninstalled after installation of the later one.
